In our culture, excess body hair in women can be embarrassing. Although shaving is acceptable to men, women who shave their faces just do not fit the image of a woman. The latest technology for removing hair is less painful and more effective and has eliminated scarring.

For years women have tried many methods for removing hair from their body. Many of the traditional solutions for removing hair such as shaving, plucking and waxing, provide only temporary relief and may actually stimulate hair growth. Electrolysis, while effective, often requires years of ongoing and frequently painful treatments. All of these methods commonly result in scarring, allergic reactions, and ingrown hairs. New technologies have produced more satisfied patients. Men have also found these newer techniques effective for unwanted hair on their ears, neck, shoulders, and back.

The specialists of Network of Aesthetic Dermatology & Laser Centers "Cleopatra" recommend laser hair removal - an effective way of removing hair permanently, with minimal discomfort and shorter treatment times than many of these traditional hair removal techniques.

Network of Aesthetic Dermatology & Laser Centers "Cleopatra" uses the Candela GentleLASE™ with integrating Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™ ) for laser hair removing. This is an Alexandrite 755 nm wavelength that has an outstanding track record for permanent results. A dynamic cooling process protects the skin in which a cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers, providing the clients with increased comfort. With the largest spot size of any laser hair removal device (15 mm), treatments for large areas can be completed in very short amounts of time. Lasting hair removal has never been this easy!

How laser works

Lasers designed for permanent hair removal emit wavelengths of light designed to be absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin). If the surrounding skin is relatively light compared to the color of the hair then the entire energy of the laser will be concentrated in the hair shaft, effectively destroying it without affecting the skin or follicle. The ability of the laser to produce a very narrow bandwidth on a consistent basis is the key to a safe efficient treatment. Many laser hair removal systems on the market do not produce a sufficiently narrow bandwidth of light or have difficulty maintaining the consistency of the bandwidth. This causes a burning of the skin, tissue and blood surrounding the treated hair follicles and results in a painful treatment and, sometimes, serious long-term skin damage.

Dynamic Cooling Device

GentleLase™ is the only permanent hair removal system that employs the patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™). While the Alexandrite laser emits a beam that only heats the hair shaft, heat is transmitted from the hair shaft to the surrounding tissue for several milliseconds after the laser pulse. The DCD™ produces a fine spray of cryogenic cooling on the surrounding skin to fully absorb any heat transmitted from the destroyed hair shafts.

What does the treatment involve?

The patient is asked to wear eye protection. The area to be treated is then shaved. A small handpiece, or "wand" is placed against the skin and a burst of coolant is applied as the laser is activated. The handpiece is repositioned and the laser is activated again. The size or the area treated will determine the number of laser activations, or "pulses", required.

How many sessions are needed?

There is NO hair removal method (including laser) which can guarantee "permanent hair removal". The most realistic description of the results after laser treatment is: "long-term hair REDUCTION". This means: "After four to six treatments the total amount of hair is greatly reduced - generally by 70% to 90% - and hair which does grow is often much finer and lighter in color." Most people are very pleased with this degree of improvement, as long as they know that this is what to expect before they have laser hair removal treatment.

The number of sessions will vary for each individual. During the initial visit, the laser light disables those follicles in the "active" phase of the growth cycle. Follicles in the "dormant" phase will not be affected. Since follicles cycle through "active" and "dormant" phases, additional sessions may be desired once the "dormant" follicles become "active". For this reason, we recommend a series of three treatments, some individuals require as many as 5 - 6 treatments.
